The Psychological and Behavioural Sciences single major will develop your scientific understanding of human thoughts and behaviours, the psychological processes underlying these and the relationship of these processes to brain function. You will find an emphasis on the measurement of psychological abilities, how these develop through the lifespan and the processes that govern the relationships between people and groups in a multicultural society. You will also develop an understanding of how psychological processes are affected by ageing, brain damage and disease.

Course Accreditation

The Psychological and Behavioural Sciences Major is Accredited without conditions in the BSc and BA by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as a three-year psychology sequence.

This course provides extensive training in the application of psychological theories and principles to workplace settings with a view to improving organisational performance and enhancing employee wellbeing.

The course offers training in the following areas: undertaking effective research in organisations; psychological assessment for enhanced personnel selection outcomes; employee training and skill development; implementing organisational change initiatives effectively; improving work design to enhance employee effectiveness, wellbeing, health and safety; applying the principles of human factors to optimise human-system interactions; team development and team work; and effective leadership behaviour.

The course also provides an opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills, under supervision, in organisational consultancy group project.

The Bachelor of Commerce offers 7 majors enabling you to combine subjects in a way that matches your career goals and personal interests. You will have the opportunity to choose a second major from the Bachelor of Commerce or from the majors available in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Biomedical Science or Bachelor of Science degrees. You do not need to choose your final major(s) until your 2nd year, so you can try out 2 or 3 different subjects to see which interests you most.

The Accounting and Finance majors (Top 100 worldwide, QS 2020) are recognised by Australian and international professional bodies such as Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) , Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand  as a critical step towards gaining professional accreditation.

The Master of Applied Finance is a practical course designed both for graduates already working in the finance sector, as well as those with a non-finance background who wish to move into the finance area.

Covering a wide range of applied finance topics, this specialised master’s course leads to careers in corporate banking and finance, stock market trading, insurance, investment management and other areas of applied finance.

You will study under the guidance of experienced Finance professionals, including professors who have served on the Commonwealth Government Superannuation Round table, acted as expert witnesses in court cases, and developed an Equity Preference Index in partnership with Colonial First State.

The curriculum complements the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program, with topics including risk management, capital markets, and international finance. Candidates preparing for the CFA qualification are encouraged to enrol in the Master of Applied Finance as a preparatory course.
