Universities in the US are either public (funded by the government) or private (self-financing institutions). The tuition fee varies from $10,000 for arts/humanities courses in public universities, to over $60,000 for professional courses in top private universities like Harvard, MIT and Stanford (from RM 40,000 to RM 300,000 approximately). These figures are not inclusive of costs such as application and visa fee, books and supplies, health cover, housing, travel, health coverage and other miscellaneous expenses.

Fortunately, most private universities also keep their fee structure and other related information open for the public to view. This comes in handy as students start researching their preferred universities to make a realistic estimation of fees.
For instance, as per the information provided on the website of University of Texas, Arlington, the graduate programs cost $28,000 including housing and meals for in-state resident students. Concordia University, Chicago discloses its total annual cost for undergraduate program to be $43,862 including boarding costs. For a similar program, Oklahoma City University charges only $15,000 as tuition fee per year.
Therefore, through just secondary research alone, students can make an estimate of the expenses to be incurred, at the university they apply for. The good news here is, these costs could be brought down drastically with the aid of scholarships, by taking up part-time jobs and adopting a less expensive lifestyle.
